First we would like to say something more about our project name. WAI-NOT stands for "why not ICT for ...". Our children wrote it as WAI-NOT...... Each link to the W3C-WAI - Web Content Accessibility Guidelines is unintentional. A couple of years ago WAI-NOT started searching for the possibilities of ICT for children and youngsters with a mental disability. In association with a couple of European partners a number of specific computer applications were further elaborated, like for example a special website adjusted to different intellectual levels. Pictographs and auditory support was used on this website wherever possible. Furthermore, it is now possible for youngsters with a mental disability to send emails with the help of pictographs through an adjusted e-mail client. WAI-NOT proves you don’t have to be able to read or write to surf the Net. Click HERE (http://www.wai-not.be) to take a look on the website for children and youngsters with a mental disability. For parents, supervisors and teachers of children with a mental disability all relevant ICT and project information is grouped on this informative site. |
